A 29-year-old Hilo man with a lengthy rap sheet has been arrested and charged after a home security camera allegedly caught him breaking into a Kaumana house on Wednesday.
On Thursday morning, police arrested Justin Fergerstrom. On Friday afternoon, Fergerstrom was charged with unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle and three counts of first-degree burglary.
A surveillance video captured a suspect breaking into a South Wilder Road home several times during a four-hour period. Items removed from the home included fishing gear, car parts, power tools and other items valued in excess of $1,700.
According to court records, Fergerstrom has 16 convictions, none for felonies, but has a pending felony theft case set for trial on July 22. He was on supervised release in that case when the burglary allegedly occurred.
Fergerstrom’s bail was set at $85,000, and he remains in the police cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday.
