Panaewa Equestrian Center will again be the site of the Gymkhana Ohana Fun Day on Sunday. The Gymkhana Ohana invites all participants — from keiki to adult — to join in fun, timed events on horseback or without a horse. The division events, which get under way at 8:30 a.m., are geared for keiki, beginners, novice, partners and “open-to-all” divisions. This is the fourth fun day.

“The public is welcome, with no admission, to watch events typical of the old paniolo days,” said a spokesman for the Gymkhana Ohana.
Register and enter events in girls’ and boys’ dummy goat tying with no-horse and goat tying on-horse for 6 and over; egg racing on-horse/ no-horse open to all; dummy roping open to all; breakaway (no tying up) calf roping on-horse ages 6 and above; goat undecorating (take-um-off ribbon) no-horse for 12 and under; barrel racing (go round the barrels) led-on-horse/on-horse, open to all; pole-bending (go round the poles) on-horse open to all; keyhole (race to the hole/back) on-horse, open to all; rescue (my partner) on-horse for over 10; various flag racing (with partner) on-horse, open to all.
The last event on April 27 rounded up approximately 100 “wannabe” winners for events leading to first-, second- and third-place trophies, ribbons and spending bucks in the open-to-all division. First-place winners for this season will receive trophies, and all placing first- through fourth-places receive ribbons. First-place winners in the open-to-all events receive spending bucks and trophies.
“The all-day fun event is expected to again bring together families and friends, with or without lunches, as a concession is open to all,” said coordinators. “Enjoy watching the events sitting under the county’s newly built covered bleachers and refurbished arena, or bring your own tents, too.”
