Amanda Agdeppa and Grayson Mento are this year’s winners of the annual Richard and Eleanor Imai Scholarships for outstanding high school graduates whose parents are members of a Hongwanji temple on the Big Island. Each received a grant of $3,250.
Amanda Agdeppa and Grayson Mento are this year’s winners of the annual Richard and Eleanor Imai Scholarships for outstanding high school graduates whose parents are members of a Hongwanji temple on the Big Island. Each received a grant of $3,250.
Agdeppa, a graduate of Honokaa High School, is the daughter of Federico and Sherry Agdeppa of Honokaa. The family belongs to the Paauilo Hongwanji Mission.
Mento, a Hilo High School graduate, is the son of Quince and Joanne Mento of Papaikou. The Mento family belongs to the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.
All applicants are evaluated on their knowledge and understanding of Shin Buddhism, as well as academic standing, along with their participation in temple, school and community activities.
“Amanda and Grayson were outstanding in all phases of the scholarship requirements, and we congratulate them for their success in high school as well as in their future endeavors,” said scholarship committee spokesman Sadao Aoki.
