Maui police issue 530 speeding citations
WAILUKU, Maui (AP) — Maui police say a weeklong special traffic enforcement operation has resulted in 634 tickets.
Sgt. William Hankins tells The Maui News (http://is.gd/f9Imyg) that a majority of the citations were for speeding.
Police issued 530 speeding citations and arrested a robbery suspect who had a heavy foot on the pedal during the stepped-up enforcement operation, which ended Saturday.
Hankins says most drivers were going 15 mph to 25 mph over the speed limit, and no one was ticketed for excessive speeding, or going faster than 30 mph over the posted speed limit.
Most tickets were issued on Mokulele and Haleakala highways.
Fines include $5 per each mile over the speed limit, plus $67 in court costs.
