Basically Books in downtown Hilo has expanded its retail offerings into some of the space previously used by its parent company, Petroglyph Press, a printing, copy and fax service, founded in 1962.

Basically Books in downtown Hilo has expanded its retail offerings into some of the space previously used by its parent company, Petroglyph Press, a printing, copy and fax service, founded in 1962.

The remodel has also allowed the company to create a more private space for the business office while making better use of the square footage for map, travel and stationery products, as well as the used and out-of-print books featured at Basically Books.

In addition, the change will enable the Petroglyph Press copy and fax services to now be available to the public on Sundays. The store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Basically Books was opened in 1985 by David and Christine Reed and has shared the same location with Petroglyph Press at 160 Kamehameha Ave. since relocating there in 1997.

“Since the two businesses share the same location, we’ve turned a new page and expanded the retail space of Basically Books into part of the area occupied by Petroglyph Press,” explained Reed. “We’re expanding because business is good and we want to more attractively display our retail products to enhance our customers’ experience.” Visit www.basicallybooks.com and www.petroglyphpress.com.
