Police identified the driver in a single-car crash that killed him and another man on Wednesday in Glenwood as 36-year-old Patrick Wayne Agcalon of Mountain View.

Police identified the driver in a single-car crash that killed him and another man on Wednesday in Glenwood as 36-year-old Patrick Wayne Agcalon of Mountain View.

Officers responding to a 3:45 p.m. call Wednesday determined that Agcalon was driving a 1999 Honda CRV sport-utility vehicle east on North Glenwood Road when the vehicle ran off the road and struck a utility pole and a tree.

The passenger was wearing a seat belt, but Agcalon was not. Police believe that speed and alcohol were both factors in this crash.

A negligent homicide investigation has been opened and an autopsy ordered to determine how both men died.

The name of the second victim is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of the next of kin.

The deaths are the 20th and 21st official Big Island traffic fatalities this year compared to 23 at this time last year.
