Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission will hold its annual Hatsu Bon Service at 7 p.m. on Saturday to remember and pay homage to those who have passed away within the past 12 months.
The community is invited to the service at 216 Mohouli St., at the corner of Mohouli and Kapiolani streets, and to the bon dance which will follow at 8 p.m.
The traditional O-Bon festival will feature such favorites as andagi, hot dogs and other refreshments at the concession booth.
“Come early and enjoy the various foods at the concession before it runs out,” said Roy Hamakawa, Higashi chairman, “and see our newly renovated altar.”
O-Bon is also a time to reunite with family and friends. The annual Ura Bon (day-after O-Bon) service will be held on Sunday at 10 a.m.
“We welcome the public, for free, to attend both services and the bon dance,” said Hamakawa. For additional information, please contact the Rev. Marcos Sawada at 935-8968.
