Two men accused of a pair of home invasions on July 12 in Hawaiian Paradise Park could stand trial on robbery, burglary and assault charges.
After a preliminary hearing that concluded Tuesday, Hilo District Judge Harry Freitas ruled that probable cause exists to try Dustin James Jose and Jack Vaughn, both 31-year-old Kona men. He scheduled both men for arraignment and plea before Hilo Circuit Judge Glenn Hara on Aug. 20 at 8:30 a.m.
The victims said that three masked men dressed in black forced their way into two 30th Avenue homes, assaulted two people and stole a purse and a backpack. The victims said the men fled in a pickup truck. One of the victims said she threw a can of pork and beans, which hit the cab of the truck and landed in the truck’s bed.
Jose and Vaughn were arrested later that night in Kurtistown. Police said the can or pork and beans was found in the truck’s bed.
Jose, who also faces unrelated child molestation charges, is free on $60,000 bond, while Vaughn is free on $12,000 bond.
