Police found a man wanted for allegedly assaulting an officer hiding in bushes today in Hawaiian Beaches.

Christopher Gonsalves Sr., 48, of Hawaiian Beaches was arrested at about 5:40 p.m. near Ono Street.

His son, 27-year-old Christopher Gonsalves Jr., was arrested nearby a few minutes earlier for two outstanding warrants and for a burglary that occurred at a Hilo apartment complex, police said.

The elder Gonsalves allegedly fled after assaulting an officer who was responding to a report of abuse in Hawaiian Beaches on Saturday night.

The officer received non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Gonsalves Sr. was also arrested on investigation of domestic abuse and terroristic threatening.

The father and son were both transported to Hilo cellblock pending further investigation.
