The inaugural Waiakea High School Girls Volleyball Invitational will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Warrior Gym.

The inaugural Waiakea High School Girls Volleyball Invitational will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Warrior Gym.

Ashley Hanohano is the Waiakea girls varsity head coach working along with assistant Jazmin Pa’akaula. Jodi Kalawe and Lovey Aiana-Mauga are the Warrior juinor varsity coaches.

The first day of the tournament will start at 3:30 p.m. and be a seedings pool. On Friday action begins at 1 p.m. with the teams advancing into power pools, based on won/loss records and percentage points.

On Saturday, play starts at 9:30 a.m. and the teams will move into a gold or silver elimination bracket. The top six teams from Friday will battle in the gold bracket and bottom six in the silver bracket.

Participating teams include Waiakea Blue, Waiakea White, Kamehameha, Honokaa, Kealakehe, Hawaii Prep, Pahoa, Ka’u, East Pac, Konawaena, Keaau and Hilo. East Pac is a combination squad from St. Joseph and Christian Liberty.

Admission is $3 for adults, $2 senior ciiitizens, and $1 students. A food concession will be set throughout the tournament and no outside food or beverages will be allowed in the gym.

Kona soccer clinic

Kona Eagles from KCS, will host a youth soccer clinic featuring Maui United Director of Coaching Brent Nunes and Maui United Program Director Blake Nunes on Sept.1 at Hualalai Academy.

The clinic is for our boys and girls from the Big Island U8-U18 levels and runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The clinic fee is $50.

Brent and Blake Nunes will focus on training players to the highest level of play while extending invitations to those players who want to experience playing off-island. For youngsters ages 8 to 20 interested in joining Big Island Junior Bowlers Association, a sign-up will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday and Aug. 24 from noon to 1 p.m. at Hilo Lanes.

The Hawaii Island Sports Officials Association volleyball general membership meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Waiakea High School Gym.
