Hip-hop artist Jason Chu will be in residence at Church of Holy Cross from Wednesday through September.
The Los Angeles-based YouTube artist writes songs about joy and cynicism, greed and hope, hurt and healing. Humorous and sincere, he invites the listener into stories of his friends, family, and own life. He will join current Holy Cross Music Director Pedro Ka‘awaloa to make this August and September a special Youth Music Month at Holy Cross.
Since studying philosophy at Yale University, Jason has been a teacher in Korea, a minister in Beijing and a rapper in LA. His music deals with the Asian-American experience, the postmodern world, cynicism, and faith. To learn more, visit www.jasonchumusic.com.
Hilo High and Harvard University alum Ka‘awaloa is no stranger to the Hilo music scene. He has taught music at Hilo High, performed in numerous musicals at the University of Hawaii, the Palace Theatre and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Now, beginning with an open mike music session today at Holy Cross, these two musical artists will begin their outreach to youth (and others of all ages) through the medium of music at Holy Cross. All are invited. For more information, call Holy Cross at 935-1283.
