Honolulu man faces felony in fake gun case
HONOLULU (AP) — A man who pointed a BB gun at a woman will be the first person in Hawaii to be tried under a new law that makes the offense a felony.
Television station KITV reports (http://bit.ly/1ddJVQc ) that 20-year-old Timothy Maioho was indicted on a charge of terroristic threatening.
Court documents say the woman spotted Maioho Aug. 14 in a fast-food parking lot holding what she thought was a gun. She said that when she got out of her car he pointed the BB gun toward her. The orange tip indicating it was a toy had been painted over.
The felony carries a prison term of up to five years.
A month earlier the crime would have been a misdemeanor.
