As they do twice a year — for Martin Luther King Day and “9/11 A Day of Remembrance” — volunteers with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Hawaii County will offer a Read to Me program for students in grades K-3 from 10 a.m.-noon on Sept. 7 at the Hilo Walmart.
The free event will be presented by RSVP, along with Read to Me International, on the covered lanai beside the main entrance. Parents, guardians and grandparents are invited to bring their keiki.
A child may read to the volunteer, or the volunteer will read to the child. Each participant will be presented a new book, which will be donated by the RSVP Advisory Council. At the previous “Read to Me” event, 163 new books were given to the children.
For further information, please contact the RSVP Program at 961-8730. RSVP is a program sponsored by the county Department of Parks and Recreation Elderly Activities Division via a grant from Senior Corps of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
