An overturned semi-truck caused traffic on Highway 19 to be routed through Honokaa on Tuesday.

An overturned semi-truck caused traffic on Highway 19 to be routed through Honokaa on Tuesday.

The wreck occurred at about 11:30 a.m. when the semi-truck driver swerved to avoid a car taking a left turn onto the highway from Mamane Street, at about the 44 mile marker, a police spokeswoman said.

That prompted police to close the Waimea-bound lane to allow the truck to be removed.

Both lanes were later closed by 3 p.m.

Traffic was restored about an hour later.

A female passenger in the car, age unknown, received minor injuries but declined treatment, the spokeswoman said.

No traffic infractions were issued.
