Betty Beatriz Cruz Jumalon, 80, of Keaau, died Aug. 15 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Manila, Philippines, she was a retired room service inspector for the Cedar Sinai Medical Center in California and a homemaker and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. John Richard Ruggiero, 76, of Hilo died Sunday at his home. Born in Boston, he was a retired mailman for the U.S. Postal Service and served as a staff sergeant for the Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and American Legion. Hugh Hazard Willocks, 72, of Hilo died Sept. 4 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was chairman of the board of Willocks Construction Corp., a U.S. Army first lieutenant in the Vietnam War, former president and member of the Hawaii Island Contractors Association, and member of the National Rifle Association and the Republican Party.
