These individuals will be honored at the annual Citizenship Day ceremony at 2 p.m. Sept. 17 in the county’s Aupuni Center conference room.
“Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is a combined event that occurs in the United States on Sept. 17 each year,” said Rose Y. Bautista, the county’s immigration information specialist. “This event commemorates the formation and signing of the Constitution of the United States on Sept. 17, 1787.
“It also recognizes all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become U.S. citizens,” Bautista said. “On this day, U.S. citizens remember the blessings of liberty and are recognized for holding the responsibilities of citizens.
“The event also serves as a means for American citizens to express their pride in their citizenship,” she said. “Those who were naturalized by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), in Honolulu are encouraged to participate in this auspicious ceremony.
“The Citizenship Day ceremony honors and recognized our newest citizens and is an opportunity for families and friends to experience,” Bautista said. “We encourage you, your family and friends to join us along with several of our community leaders and elected officials who will offer their congratulatory messages and share the significance and value of being an American citizen.”
