There will be a basketball clinic Oct. 11-13 at the Honokaa Parks and Recreation gym featuring Alika Smith, head coach of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I champion Kalaheo Mustangs.

Youngsters in kindergarten through the six grade will go from 9 a.m.-noon, while instructors will work with students in grades 7-12 from 1-4 p.m.

Cost is $50 and includes a T-shirt. Applications can be picked up from the Honokaa P&R gym or Ted’s Garage in Honokaa.

Ekolu Tennis

League to start

The East Hawaii District Tennis Association announces the start of the Ekolu season beginning Oct. 19 and running through Dec. 22. The Ekolu League consists of one men’s, one women’s, and one mixed doubles per match.

The captain’s meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. If you are interested in captaining a team or for more information, please contact league coordinator Lori Nekoba at lnekoba@aol.com or (808) 938-6616.

Kona youth golf

The First Tee Program will start at 3 p.m. Sunday at Makalei Hawaii Country Club.

Registration begins at 2:15 p.m for ages 7 to 17. Meet in the parking lot of MHCC.

There is a $25 registration fee per participant for new members, and all future sessions will be at 3 p.m. Sundays at the driving range.

OIOKC races set

The OIOKC will be having its September Points Race on Saturday. Gates open at 8 a.m. Registration open until 9 a.m.

A short drivers meeting to follow with practice open until 10:30 a.m. Racing action will follow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

St. Joseph High School is seeking a girls soccer coach for the 2013-14 season.

Pirates baseball

The Waiakea Pirates Youth Organization is registering T-Ball players ages 5 (birthdates between May 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009) and 6 (birthdates between May 1, 2007 to April 30, 2008) for the upcoming 2014 season.

Practice will start in December and play will be from February to May. For more info, call Dot at 959- 3008 to sign-up.
