Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Hawaii County will hold its annual Candlelight Vigil of Hope and Remembrance Hilo on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Christian Heritage Church on Kawili Street in Hilo.

“The vigil is a time for family and friends to honor and remember, in a special way, their loved ones who have been killed or injured by an impaired driver, or have been victims of homicide,” said spokesman Ricia Shema. “Each year, the vigil provides bereaved family and friends and injured victims a safe and supportive environment to grieve, remember their loved ones, and unite with others who have suffered similar tragedy.
“MADD Hawaii invites all who have been impacted by impaired driving or other violent crimes to join us. Please call 934-0300 to RSVP. There is no admission fee, but we request you please RSVP by Monday, Sept. 23,” she said. “As part of one of the largest victim services organizations in the U.S., MADD Hawaii supports victims of drunk driving and homicide at no charge.”
Mothers Against Drunk Driving was founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver. It is the nation’s largest nonprofit agency working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking. Visit www.madd.org.
