Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has announced upcoming flight plans in order to facilitate various operations within the park.

Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.

The dates of flights are:

— Today from 10-11 a.m. over Olaa, near Wright Road in Volcano Village: This flight mission is to deliver fencing materials that help protect that remote wilderness area from pigs and other feral ungulates;

— Today from 8-10 a.m. over Red Hill, Mauna Loa cabins and Mauna Loa summit: Two new 500-gallon water tanks will be delivered to both cabins;

— Thursday from 12-1 p.m. at Kilauea summit: Protection rangers will be practicing their short-haul rescue operations;

— Tuesday from 8-10 a.m. to Halape;

— Friday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to Halape: Both Halape missions will restore native naupaka to the beach habitat of hawksbill and green sea turtles that nest there and re-supply the turtle crew who are monitoring nesting season.

The park apologizes for any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.
