Viola Kanaka’ole Chung-Hoon Chaffin, 89, of Pahala died July 16 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a senior companion for the county, hospice volunteer, former civilian worker for the Army Air Corps and member of Pahala Seniors Club, Ka’u Hawaiian Civic Club and Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Pahala. Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Memorial donations to American Cancer Society or Hospice Hawaii. Survived by sons, Kenneth (Megan) Chaffin of Northbrook, Ill., Dennis (Denise) Chaffin and Timothy (Lina) Chaffin of Waikoloa; brother, Paul (Maggie) Chung-Hoon of Kona; sisters, Marie Cadena of Hilo, Ernestine (Kevin) Kenny of Honolulu and Betty (Jerry) Townsend of North Highlands, Calif.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Glen Fusao Matsumoto, 54, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 6 at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in North Kohala, he owned Matsumoto Contracting and was a member of Waiaha Kumiai. Visitation 11 a.m.-noon Sunday, Oct. 6 at Sheraton Keauhou Convention Center. Memorial Service at noon. Casual attire; no flowers. Alecia Pualani Price, 74, of Papaikou died Sept. 4 at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired faculty staff of Student Affairs at University of Wisconsin and a U.S. Navy veteran. Graveside service 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. No flowers. Survived by spouse, James “Jim” Corning of Papaikou; son, John Price of South Carolina; daughter, Malisa (Ajay) Vyas of Madison, Wis.; sisters, Margo (Jodi) Fernandez of California, Aleina (John) Lorenz of Hudson, Wis., Rita Fernandez of Texas and Sasha (Ken) Pogwizd of Rockford, Ill.; two grandchildren.
