John Juan Jason Hanog, 80, of Pepeekeo, died Sept. 20 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hakalau, he was a retired mechanic for the former Hilo Coast Processing Company, a bartender, security guard, Unit Editor for the International Longshore’s and Warehousemen’s Union and a Pepeekeo volunteer fire fighter. He was also a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou, Filipino Catholic Club, Pepeekeo Filipino Club, Hui Okinawa, Okinawa Culture Club, Hawaii Portuguese Club, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Kulaimano Seniors, Sportsmen Inn Bowling Club of Hakalau and Safeway Bowling Club. Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou; Mass at 10 a.m. Private urn committal at a later date. Survived by wife, Barbara P. Montibon Hanog of Pepeekeo; daughters, Jackie Pavao and Joyce (Glenn) Yafuso of Hilo, Jasmine (Herbert) Okunami of Pepeekeo; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sheila Irene Falls, 80, of Waikoloa, died Sept. 16 at her home. Born in South Bend, Ind., she was a former hairstylist and cosmetologist, insurance agent and office manager for Bognar Insurance Agency, an avid golfer, member of Waikoloa Community Church and former volunteer and member of Epworth United Methodist Church. Nancy Griffith, 79, died Monday in New York. Born in Ithica, N.Y., she was a 35-year resident of Napoopoo, a renowned sailor who was the first to circumnavigate Antarctica in the high southern latitudes and last to carry cargo to the South Pacific by sailing ship. She was also a gold-medal recipient at the Kona Coffee Festival 2004. Farewell celebration will be held Nov. 2 in Napoopoo. Time and location to be announced. Survived by son, Robert Teno Griffith; daughter, Fiona Griffith; step-daughters, Maureen Griffith Rohwer, Marilyn Griffith Azevedo and Melouise Griffith Pfeffer; grandson, Gabriel Griffith; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Carl Wayne Colon, 52, of Waianae and formerly of Hilo, died Monday at Kaiser Foundation Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was a security guard. Viewing 10 a.m. Friday at Moanalua Mortuary. Service at 11:30 a.m. Survived by mother, Winifred Colon; brothers, Hesus Colon Jr., Keith Colon and Donald Colon; sisters Darleen Cruz, Tonia Chong and Ann Colon.
