William “Bud” Sherwood Loeffler Jr., 82, of Hilo died Aug. 14 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired police officer and former liquor inspector for the County of Hawaii and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, UN Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation. Elizabeth “Honey Girl” Pomaikai Simeona, 78, of Hilo died Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired staff sergeant from the Women’s Army Corp. and worked in the housekeeping department at the Hilo Medical Center, was a former employee at the Army Air Force Exchange Service and a member of the Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association, Chapter 62, and the Wikiwiki Golf Club.
