A 31-year-old Kona man accused in an assault aboard a boat off the Puna coastline has been released from police custody pending further investigation.
Police released Ronald Matsuoka on Thursday evening. He was arrested Thursday afternoon on suspicion of second-degree assault after a 30-year-old man was airlifted to shore at Pohoiki and taken to Hilo Medical Center after sustaining lacerations.
Police said another passing boat picked up Matsuoka and the victim following the alleged attack. Matsuoka reportedly jumped off the boat and swam ashore, where he was taken into custody.
