Volcano’s Mongolian Barbeque — a twice-a-year fun- and food-filled fundraiser sponsored by the Cooper Center Council — will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Cooper Center on Wright Road.

Subtitled “A Wokful of Deliciousness,” the dinner will let guests put together their own meals by choosing local Ka‘u beef, local fish, and their choice of fresh vegetables from local farms. A seasoned “wokster” then sizzles the combination as the diner supervises. Vegetarians can have theirs cooked in a wok used for vegetarian meals only. The cost of the meal is 75 cents an ounce and comes with rice and dessert.

“Besides good food, entertainment will be provided by the sweet voice of Penny Madamba and the ukulele styling of Angie Libadisos,” said spokeswoman Mililani Hughes. “These two ladies will liven up the community event with music for your ears.”

For Volcano area folks wanting to get to know their community, one good way is to volunteer at this event, said Hughes.

“The traditional ‘chop chop,’ the preparation of the vegetables, will take place at the Cooper Center at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11. Help is needed to do the setup tasks and the take down on Saturday,” she said. “If you would like to be one of the wok masters or a sweet purveyor of dessert delicacies, your help will also be appreciated.”

For more information, or to volunteer, please call Barbara Toles at 769-3903. Proceeds from this event will benefit the running and maintenance of the Cooper Center facility and its many programs and community initiatives.
