KAHULUI, Maui (AP) — The state will hold several meetings in Maui County this month to discuss proposed new rules for Maui and Lanai fisheries.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources said Thursday the changes would involve bag and size limits for popular nearshore fish, including goatfish, parrotfish and jacks.
The proposed rules include limiting fishermen taking no more than two parrotfish.
The department is holding the meetings to explain the proposals, how they were developed and what the process will be going forward.
The first meeting will be held in Hana on Thursday. The second meeting will be in Lanai City on Oct. 15, followed by a third meeting in Kahului on Oct. 16.
The department says it will hold public hearings later.
