The Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce will present its annual employment law seminar on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii’s Moanahoku Hall.

The Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce will present its annual employment law seminar on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii’s Moanahoku Hall.

The presentation will feature attorneys from the law firm of Torkildson, Katz, Moore, Hetherington & Harris, a co-sponsor

of the seminar, and will provide information for Hawaii businesses highlighting current human resources and personnel law trends.

This all-day event will include a complimentary hardcopy of the newly revised “2013-14 Hawaii Chamber Desk Manual: Labor and Employment Law for Hawaii Employers.” This year’s version also includes an all new chapter with a “Sample Employee Handbook” for the small employer. This new chapter will provide policies every small business should consider in adopting an employee handbook. A continental breakfast and buffet lunch are also included.

“The presenters combine their in-depth knowledge of employment law with their longstanding ties to our community to provide practical, effective advice to both large and small employers,” said chamber spokesman Miles Yoshioka.

This year’s sessions will include: “Harassment, Retaliation and Discrimination Law Update”; “Immigration and Employment”; “Reasonable Accommodation”; and “Putting It All Together: Interviewing and Hiring, Your Basic Company Policies and Administration of Benefits, When Coaching Isn’t Enough- Discipline, and The Aftermath- Post Employment Pitfalls.”

The registration fee is $325 for Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce and SHRM members, and $375 for non-members. Discounts are also available for multiple attendees from a single business.
