Take a handmade children’s blanket to one of the sites and help out a good cause. All blankets must be new and handmade — quilted, sewn, knitted, crocheted or fringed fleece. Storebought or used blankets cannot be accepted.
Blankets must be machine washable and dryable, in kid-friendly colors and fabrics.
“Remember: soft, warm and cheerful; no scratchy fabrics or adult prints,” said spokeswoman Kathleen Stacey.
Standard size is 40 inches by 60 inches, no smaller than 36 inches square. Larger blankets up to twin-bed size are good for teens. Blankets go to children of all ages, both boys and girls. Here is the Project Linus Mission:
First, provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”
Second, provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.
Project Linus Hilo Chapter distributes blankets to keiki in need across the Big Island. Blankets go to Child Welfare Services, Hospice of Hilo, Salvation Army, the Lokahi Giving Project and other organizations helping children.
