to hold camp in Hilo

A Phenom Basketball Exposure Regional Camp for boys and girls in grades 5-8 will be held Nov. 16-17 at the Panaewa Park gym.

The cost is $125 with an early bird special of $99, and the deadline to enter is Oct. 25.

According to a release, each player will receive a Phenom game uniform, four-game guarantee, several hours of skill development and very informative breakout sessions, learning discipline, teamwork, mental toughness, basketball IQ, and working with new coaches and teammates.

The Regional Camp concept is used around the country by Phenom Basketball to identify players to attend their national camps in the summer.

Skeet Club shoot

The Kilauea Sporting Skeet Club held a compact sporting clay shoot on Sept. 15 at the County Trap and Skeet Range.

The top guns in this 50-target event included:

• 12 gauge: Jordan Hara, 43; Mike Munnerlyn, 42; Elton Endo, 41.

• Sub gauge: Neil Arakaki, 41; Bill Austin, 34; Ronald Nakamura, 33.

The next shoot will be held Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The public is invited to participate. All shotguns, ammunition, eye and ear protection shall be supplied by each individual participant.

A potluck lunch is planned, with drinks provided by the club.

Vulcan Booster Club

monthly luncheon set

University of Hawaii at Hilo volleyball coach Tino Reyes and cross country coach Jaime Guerpo will be the guest speakers Oct. 22 at the Vulcan Booster Club’s first monthly luncheon of the season.

The luncheon will be held at New Star Restaurant, 172 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo, and a Chinese buffet will be served at noon at a cost of $12 per person.

Junior dragsters

Winner — Dione Tobara (Mt. View), 8.98 seconds/71 mph.

Runner-up — Kaimi Francis (Hilo), red-lighted, 9.31/66.

Sunday “Monster” Bracket

Winner — Dennis Wong (Hilo), Camaro (8.94/153).

Runner-up — Donnley Koga (Kurtistown), Camaro (9.48/146).

“Grudge Match” Bracket

Winner — Rodney Rezentes (Hilo), Chevy S-10 (17.04/78).

Runner-up— David Francis (Paauilo), Camaro, red-lighted (time of 8.66/157).
