A performance of acoustic instruments from around the world will be offered at the Kealakekua Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 5 p.m. The free performance will be conducted in the Adult Reading Area.
Multi-instrumentalist Gwen Jones will present “Instruments of the World: A Sound Sampling,” performing with a variety of acoustic instruments including the didgeridoo, Balinese flute, ecktar and Tibetan bell. Jones, a Hawaii Island resident, has expanded the musical uses of these traditional folk instruments by changing the tunings and combining instruments from different regions to compose pieces that are both melodic and rhythmically dynamic. She will also lead a discussion about sound and what makes it happen.
This 90-minute program is suitable for ages 6 and older. All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
