Daylight Mind Coffee Company, at 75-5770 Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona, is now open, offering a new restaurant, coffee house, bakery, coffee roastery, coffee school and event space.
Co-owner Shawn Steiman, Ph.D., author of “The Hawai‘i Coffee Book,” has long envisioned an establishment that integrates so many aspects of coffee in one place.
“To the best of my knowledge, nowhere on earth can one find a business that can teach you about growing coffee on the farm, train you to taste that coffee, feed you a meal that incorporates that coffee, and then offer you an ocean-side seat to a spectacular sunset while drinking that coffee,” said Steiman.
Located in downtown Kailua-Kona, the business remodeled and revitalized a beloved restaurant space in Waterfront Row, focusing on using local woods and products. With its unparalleled beach side location and 3500 square feet of outdoor seating, Daylight Mind offers a stunning and relaxing space to dine or enjoy a cup of coffee.
This multifaceted business offers customers high quality, locally-sourced meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while the bakery provides a wide range of artisanal breads daily. The roastery showcases the diversity of coffees grown in Hawai‘i, while also offering the very best of international coffees. The coffee house offers the entire range of the roastery’s coffees for customers, always made-to-order, in addition to pastries made in-house. The coffee house’s retail section offers an array of coffee-related products for home or office use.
With such an amazing vista and interior space, Daylight Mind also offers an extravagant event space for parties, weddings, and meetings. All rentals come with an option to add-on food and coffee catering services.
In the coming months, Daylight Mind will open its roastery to wholesale and farmer-contract roasting accounts while offering a large variety of retail coffee options. Finally, it will open its coffee school that will offer courses for the mildly interested to the long-time coffee professional.
Daylight Mind takes its name from the literal translation of the Hawaiian word for enlightenment, na‘auao. By weaving a love of scientific exploration together with a deep respect for the wisdom and depth of its Hawaiian roots, Daylight Mind hopes to be a haven for everyone who loves coffee, and especially those who want to learn just a little bit more.
Daylight Mind Coffee Company is open for business daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.DaylightMind.com.
