The community is invited to the third annual “Haute Trash Fashion Show” at 7 p.m. Saturday at the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo. Tickets are now on sale at the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Arts, formerly called the East Hawaii Cultural Center, at 141 Kalakaua St. in downtown Hilo; Keaau Natural Foods in the Keaau Shopping Center, and at Volcano Garden Arts at 19-3834 Old Volcano Highway in Volcano Village.
This event is presented in conjunction with the Trash Art Show under way at the museum. VIP front row seat tickets are $25 and general admission is $18, or $20 at the door. Call 961-5711 for more information.
“This show is a must-see blast and it is a benefit for the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Arts and promotes recycling at the same time,” said founder Ira Ono. There will be live entertainment, an introduction by Ono and, of course, the fabulous Rayona Visqueen (aka Robin Worley) as emcee.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. with a pre-show set of original music by the Haute Trash house band, The Elementalz. The runway will come to life at 7:30 p.m. It’s all a part of the celebration of the EHCC Art of Trash, conceived by Ono and juried this year by Lourdan Kimbrell.
“Why throw it out when you can wear it out?” asks fashion show coordinator Rayona Visqueen. Local fashionistas will once again display their most beautiful rubbish in a competition of avant-garde couture. Fabulous prizes have been donated by local merchants. For more information, contact the museum at 961-5711, arts@ehcc.org, or rayonavisqueen@gmail.com.
