Ka Hui Koa Hawaii Island Veterans presents the 1st Annual East Hawaii Jazz and Blues Festival on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at Nani Maui Gardens in Hilo.
The event features Honolulu jazz singer Keahi Conjugacion and the island swing band Kalulanui from Kona, both Na Hoku Hanohano nominees. East Hawaii jazz singers Elena Welch and Lou Ann Gurney and others are on the bill, as well. Emcees are KAPA Radio’s Skylark and singer Desiree Moana Cruz.
Proceeds will benefit the Hawaii Island Veterans’ building fund.
“We’ve been working on our project along Kawili Street for a long time, and have taken our 7.5 acres there to point of actual development regards building a one-stop veterans center and medical outpatient clinic on it to meet the needs of Hawaii Island veterans of all generations, past, present and future, and their families,” said Hawaii Island Veterans’ spokesman Bob Williams.
Tickets, which include pupus from Coconut Grill chef Mark Mattos plus beer and wine, are $50 advance, $60 door. Tax-deductible tickets are available at Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art (formerly East Hawaii Cultural Center), Basically Books, Kuhio Grille, Volcano Art Center and Kamuela Liquor.
