Mr. Obama lied
In 2009, President Barack Obama famously said: “Let me be clear: If you like your doctor or health care provider, you can keep them. If you like your health care plan, you can keep that too.” This month, health plan agencies are sending cancellation letters to people who buy their own coverage, frustrating some who want to keep what they have and forcing others to buy more costly policies. The main reason is that some current policies that insurers offer fall short of what the Affordable Care Act requires starting Jan. 1. Hawaii’s HMSA is among those health care agencies being forced by circumstances to do this to its customers. I know this because a member of my own family recently received such a letter from HMSA. And the new policy is more expensive than the current policy. The fact is, Mr. Obama lied. He lied to the American people, and as the darling of the American media he will not be held accountable for it.

The costs of solar
On Thursday, Oct. 17, Bob Wahler commented on the benefits of solar electric systems. I agree. Photovoltaic power for homes and business is part of the answer for Big Island energy independence. In my previous home, though I did not have a photovoltaic system, I had a five-panel passive hot water system. With this unit it cost nothing to heat bath and kitchen water.
However, even though photovoltaic systems are key to the future, the upfront cost for these systems are very high.
Mr. Wahler wrote: “The billions spent on defending oil shipping lanes from the Persian Gulf would be a great place to look for the money. Each naval task force called home could free up tons of cash to facilitate a revolving fund to pay for low-cost or free loans to people adding solar to their homes.” Is Mr. Wahler suggesting yet another “government program”?
Look at those folks trying to sign up for Obamacare on a government run website. We have seen how government does not work. Also just look at the recent partial government shutdown. Is this government working?
My question is: Who would provide these types of loans? …
It should NOT be a government program. If anything, the money saved from less naval activity should be used to pay down the $16 trillion national debt, not more subsidies. …
As demand increases, the private solar electric companies will match supply with demand. Keep government out if the equation.
For those who feel entitled to low-cost or free things from government, President John F. Kennedy said: “Our privileges can be no greater than our obligations. The protection of our rights can endure no longer than the performance of our responsibilities.”
We don’t need government interfering in our day to day lives. We must take responsibility for ourselves.

Inouye is missed
If Sen. Daniel Inouye was still alive, the Pearl Harbor memorial would not have been part of the federal government shutdown.
