Born in Seward, Alaska, he was a milkman, worked construction and was on the Seward Volunteer Fire Dept., Ambulance Corp. and City Council. He also served as maintenance facilitator overseer at New Hope Christian Fellowship. Irene D. Minor, 94, of Hilo died Saturday, Oct. 12, at Pohai Malama Hospice of Hilo. Born in Lowell, Mass., she was one of the first “Winnie the Welders” and “Rosie the Riveters” at the Fore River Shipyard in Boston. She was a sergeant in the Woman’s Army Corps. (WACS) in Europe during WWII. She was also the member of the American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hilo Elks Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Hawaii Humane Society and past president of the Hilo Woman’s Club. Memorial service to be held at the Church of The Holy Apostles on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Visitation at 10 a.m., service at 10:30 am. Survived by sons, Edward Jr. (Sally) Minor of New York, David Minor of Hilo; daughter, Andrea Minor of Nevada; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
