At the Hilo Medical Center Foundation’s 11th annual Wine, Cheese, Chocolate and More! fundraiser on Sunday, the Hawaii County Medical Society will honor Dr. Don Toshio Matsuura as its 2013 “Physician of the Year.”
The fun, gourmet event in support of the foundation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel’s Moku ‘Ola Room and lanai. Tickets are $65 in advance, and can be purchased at the Most Irresistible Shop, Grapes, Kadota Liquors and the foundation office. If still available, they will be on sale for $75 at the door.
“The Physician of the Year Award is a highlight of our Wine and Cheese fundraiser,” said Lori Rogers, foundation executive director. “We are pleased with this year’s selection, because Dr. Matsuura is an exemplary leader who has dedicated 30 years to improving medical care here in Hilo.”
According to Dr. JoAnn Sarubbi, chair of the society, “Dr. Matsuura is the epitome of dedication and professionalism.” Matsuura is a member of the Hawaii Medical Association, Hawaii County Medical Society and American Society of Echocardiography. He is also a corporate sponsor of the East Hawaii American Heart Association Heart Walk and American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
At the event the foundation will also be honoring retiring physician Dr. Greg W. Ruhland, an anesthesiologist who has been in practice in Hilo for the past 28 years. New physicians who have moved to East Hawaii within the past year will also be introduced.
All proceeds from this event will go towards the Hilo Medical Center Foundation’s mission to support the Hilo Medical Center with projects that benefit the greater community. For more information call the foundation office at 935-2957.
