Fire destroyed a home on 38th Avenue in Orchidland on Monday afternoon, according to fire officials.

According to East Hawaii Battalion Chief Jerry Lum, six units responded to the 2:17 p.m. alarm with the first unit arriving on-scene at 2:30 p.m.

Arriving firefighters found the home fully involved and the roof collapsed. The fire had spread to a Ford sport-utility vehicle, Lum said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and there was no monetary estimate of the damage. No one was home at the time.

A written Red Cross statement said that the fire affected two families and volunteers from the organization met with the affected families to ensure that their immediate emergency needs were met, including shelter, food and clothing.
