Doors open at 4 p.m., with a silent auction of some great donations from local supporters. All proceeds go to support of Hamakua Youth Center after-school program and special activities.
Saturday, Nov. 16, will be an evening of community celebration of Hawaiian music and culture at the Honokaa People’s Theater, when the Hamakua Youth Foundation sponsors its second annual hula festival. Doors open at 4 p.m., with a silent auction of some great donations from local supporters. All proceeds go to support of Hamakua Youth Center after-school program and special activities.
The program begins at 5 p.m., featuring Eddie Ku as emcee and a host of kahiko and auana hula performances by Halua O Po‘ohala kumu Lo‘ea Hulali Covington, Halau Na Lei Punahele kumu hula Punahele Andrade, Halau Hula Helele‘i Pua O Waipio kumu hula Haleakala Sakata, and Lanakila Mangauil’s community group, Hula Me Ka Honua.
Tickets are on sale at $20 for adults and $5 for youths 12 and under. They may be purchased at the Hamakua Youth Center on Mamane Street across from Honokaa High School or by contacting the Hamakua Youth Foundation at 775-0976.
“The 2012 event was well-attended, so advance purchase of tickets is encouraged,” said spokesman Joel Cohen. “The Hamakua Youth Center ohana and participating performers look forward to your attendance and sharing of aloha.”
