The Longs drugstores at Woodlands Center in Pahoa and Keaau Shopping Center both received telephone bomb threats late Friday morning, police said.

The Longs drugstores at Woodlands Center in Pahoa and Keaau Shopping Center both received telephone bomb threats late Friday morning, police said.

Sgt. B.J. Duarte of Puna Patrol said that the threat to the Pahoa store occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. and that officers arrived on scene at 11:24 a.m.

“While investigating that, it appears that possibly the same person called and made a bomb threat to the Keaau Shopping Center Longs. Right now, we’re investigating that, and that’s about all the information we have for now,” Duarte said.

Duarte said the caller was “possibly a male” but that police didn’t have any additional information.

An employee at the Pahoa store said it was not evacuated, while a Keaau Longs employee said that both the pharmacy and the adjacent Foodland supermarket were evacuated for “about an hour.”

Police went through both stores and no bombs were found.

Asked if police believed the threats were credible, Duarte replied: “We take all threats seriously until otherwise known.”
