DETROIT (AP) — Crews will put up a 60-foot Christmas tree in downtown Detroit’s Campus Martius in preparation for the upcoming holiday season.
The tree will be hoisted by crane Friday afternoon atop the Woodward Fountain. It eventually will be wrapped in 19,000 LED lights and adorned with ornaments.
Members of the Michigan Christmas Tree Association helped locate the tree in Sherman, in Northern Michigan’s Wexford County. The tree was provided anonymously by private owners. Sherman is 225 miles northwest of Detroit.
Officials said it will take nearly three weeks to prepare the tree and park for a Nov. 22 tree lighting ceremony.
Another 350,000 lights will adorn parts of downtown including Woodward Avenue, Jefferson Avenue and Campus Martius.
