Born in Paratong, Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he worked at Hale Ho‘ola Hamakua and Mauna Lani, was in the Hawaii Army National Guard, worked at the Hamakua Sugar Plantation and the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, was a papaya farmer, and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa, The Hamakua Lions Club, the Honokaa Saranay Club, and Visayan Club of Hamakua.
