In preparation for the 33rd annual Hawaii Police Activities League (HI-PAL) Winter Basketball Classic, the Hawaii Police Department continues its ongoing campaign against the use of crystal methamphetamine, or “ice,” with a “Create Your Own Pledge” competition for intermediate school students on Hawaii Island.

All participants of the Winter Classic will use the selected entry and make a “Pledge against the Use of Ice” during the tournament, to be held in Hilo Dec. 26-29. Pledges should be short (three to five sentences in length), precise and to the point and must include the Hawaii Meth Project’s statement: “Not Even Once!”

Pledge entries should include the student’s name, age, grade and school. They may be submitted using any one of these three methods: To any police station on the island; to a school resource officer at an intermediate school (Hilo, Waiakea, Konawaena, Kealakehe, Honokaa and Pahoa), or by mail to: HI-PAL Meth Pledge c/o Hawaii Police Department, 349 Kapiolani St., Hilo, HI 96720.

All entries must be received by Friday, Dec. 6. The author of the winning pledge will be recognized during the tournament’s Skills Challenge Night on Dec. 27. HI-PAL wishes all the entrants good luck and reminds them to remember: “Not Even Once!” For full details, view this message on the Internet.
