A search was under way late Wednesday afternoon for a passenger who was reported overboard from a cruise ship approximately 750 miles northeast of Hilo, according to the Coast Guard.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center were notified at around 1 p.m. by the crew of the Grand Princess that a 30-year-old American woman had gone overboard. The passenger was last seen at noon on Wednesday.
The ship was carrying 2,600 passengers to Honolulu and had departed San Francisco on Sunday. The ship had changed course and was searching for the missing passenger.
“An HC-130 Hercules airplane crew is en route from Air Station Barber’s Point,” reads a release from the Coast Guard.
