Help “Kick Out Hunger” at a holiday food drive hosted by the Ha‘aheo Soccer Club at the Bayfront Soccer Fields from 8 a.m. to noon today.

Volunteers are collecting both canned and boxed goods to give to the Food Basket of Hilo, an islandwide, supplemental food network that collects and distributes food to low-income households, the working poor, the disabled, the ill, senior citizens and children.

“We need all kinds of food items and a lot of them! Here are the items most in demand: whole-grain cereal, peanut butter, canned soup, canned tuna, dry milk, dry pasta, canned chicken, bags of dry beans, juice, oatmeal, tomato sauce, crackers, canned vegetables, rice, canned fruit, dry fruit, canned meat (stew, chili, salmon), mayo, cooking oil, jelly/jam, and personal hygiene items,” said spokesman Erryn Dinkel.

Monetary donations welcome.
