During the week of Nov. 11-17, police arrested 26 motorists for drunken driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

During the week of Nov. 11-17, police arrested 26 motorists for drunken driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 13; Puna and South Hilo, 4 each; South Kohala, 3; Ka‘u and Hamakua, 1 each.

So far this year, there have been 1,161 DUI arrests compared to 1,298 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.6 percent.

There have been 1,171 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,299 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.9 percent.

So far this year, there have been 24 official traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island compared to 36 during the same period last year, a decrease of 33.3 percent.

To date, 13 of those fatalities have been linked to impaired driving: five to drugs; two to alcohol; and six, a combination of both.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
