A recreational adult basketball league is forming to play games on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Piihonua Gym at Carvalho Park, beginning in January.

The first eight teams to register will play.

College coaches

at softball clinic

Konawaena High School and the Department of Parks and Recreation will hold an instructional softball camp from Dec. 13-15, featuring Bob Coolen, softball coach at the University of Hawaii, and Callen Perreira, coach at College of Southern Nevada.

The clinic will include fundamental instruction and game situational strategies.

The fee is $75, which includes softball jersey, drill guide and individual player evaluations.

Hilo Little League

Hilo Little League is opening baseball registration for players, managers and coaches interested in the Minor and Major divisions for ages 8-12 from November through Jan. 3.

League play is projected to begin mid-January, and the deadline for manager or coach applications is Dec. 10.

Player registration and medical forms, proofs of residency requirements and manager or coach applications can be obtained by visiting www.hilolittleleague.com or calling 987-8469.

Filipino basketball

There will be a Filipino basketball tournament in Keaau on Nov. 29-Dec. 1.

There are five teams entered with room for more. The tournament will be double elimination with 20 minutes halves and a $300 entry fee.

Honokaa High

seeking coaches

Honokaa High is accepting applications for a baseball head coach, a track and field coach, and football assistants.

Applications are available at the main office duwring school hours (7 a.m.-4:30 p.m.), and can be turned in to the main office or at the athletic director’s office at the school gym. The deadline to apply is Friday.

Bears softball season

The Piopio Bears Athletic Association is taking registration for girls softball for ages 10-12.

Experience is not required, and coaches will teach basic fundamental rules of the game and sportsmanship.

The will season start in January or February.

Lyman Museum

Golf Tournament

The fifth annual Lyman Museum Golf Tournament will be held Nov. 23 at Volcano Golf and Country Club.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The tournament will include two-person teams in the scramble format with awards and lunch to follow.

The team entry fee is $500 and tee sponsorship is $150.

Platinum and gold sponsorships are also available.

All proceeds will benefit the Lyman Museum and Mission House.

Prizes already donated include rounds of golf for two to four players at the Mauna Kea and Hualalai Resorts.
