HONOLULU — Christian Standhardinger scored 26 points Friday night and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Hawaii to a 72-61 win over Montana at Stan Sheriff Center.
Hawaii (5-2) jumped out to a 24-8 lead to open the game. Standhardinger scored 8 points to spark that run.
Montana (1-3) fought back, closing the gap to 31-25 at halftime. Kareem Jamar scored 5 quick points to open the second half, and Montana tied the game at 33 on a Keron DeShields 3-pointer at the 18-minute mark.
Hawaii once again responded, running off an 11-2 run and taking a 45-35 lead with 12:29 left. Standhardinger once again led the way, scoring 4 points in that stretch. Montana did not get within 8 points for the rest of the game.
Brandon Spearman and Issac Fotu each scored 13 for Hawaii.
Jamar paced the Grizzlies with 16 points while DeShields added 11.
Colorado State women 65, Hawaii 60, OT: AJ Newton scored half of her 14 points in overtime to lead the visiting Rams.
Kamilah Jackson led UH (3-3) with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Jackson scored 11 points as the Rainbow Wahine closed regulation on a 21-13 run, tying it at 52 on Briana Harris’ jumper with 14 seconds remaining.
Colorado State’s Ellen Nystrom missed a free throw with one second left that could have put her team back in front. Elin Gustavsson tallied a game-high 17 for the Rams (4-1), including a jumper in OT that opened the lead to five.
Martin shot 5 of 12, but Hawaii managed just 28.2 percent shooting, including 2 of 20 from the 3-point line.
Volleyball
Emily Hartong pounded 20 kills on .395 hitting and the University of Hawaii swept Cal Riverside 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 for an easy road victory.
Nikki Taylor put down eight kills and Jade Vorster added five as the Rainbow Wahine (23-4, 12-3 Big West) won their eighth straight match to move into a first-place tie atop the conference standings heading into their regular-season finale today at Cal State Fullerton.
Ashley Cox and Fabiana Rosas each had seven kills for Riverside (2-26, 1-15), which hit just .085.
