The Filipino community of Hilo has organized a fundraising event to assist the victims of two of the most recent calamities of the Philippines — the earthquake in Bohol and the typhoon Haiyan that devastated Tacloban City.
A benefit concert will be held from 5:30-8p.m. on Dec. 2 at the Civic Auditorium. Performing artists include Kristian Lei, Keahi Conjugacion, Norman Arancon, Lenny Castillo, the Two Souls and the Hawaiian Band. Cultural dancers from the Bayanihan Club of the University of Hawaii at Hilo and The HiloVisayan Club will also be performing. Proceeds from the show will directly benefit the victims through rehabilitation projects.
This event is organized and sponsored by the Hilo Visayan Club with Dayday Hopkins and the office of immigration of the County of Hawaii with Rose Bautista.
Co-organizers include Dr. Rodney Jubilado and Dr. Norman Arancon of the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
The umbrella organization, Congress of Visayan Organization (COVO), will administer the proceeds directly to the victims. A donation of $20 for the general public and $5 for students are requested for admission.
