Police have identified a man who apparently drowned Monday while net fishing along the North Kohala coastline as 79-year-old Alfredo Orita of Kapaau.

Orita’s woman companion said he was throwing his net near the Halaula lighthouse when she lost sight of him for a few minutes.

She then saw him floating face down in the ocean.

A county helicopter found Orita’s body about 200 yards offshore.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Officer Dale Ku at 889-6540.
