Musick receives Bridging Scholarship
A University of Hawaii at Hilo senior majoring in Japanese studies received the Bridging Scholarship. Andrew Jackson Musick IV will continue his study abroad at the University of Ryukyus in Okinawa, joining the 1,340 undergraduate scholars who were awarded this scholarship by the U.S.-Japan Bridging Foundation since 1999.
Dawrs picked as RA at Northern Arizona
Hilo resident Jennifer Dawrs was selected as a resident assistant for the 2013-14 academic year at Northern Arizona University’s residential campus.
Residential assistants are students who live and work as a peer and resource for students living on campus.
They are carefully chosen each year to help other students foster academic success, connect to the NAU community, create welcoming living communities, ensure health and safety and encourage involvement on campus.
Big Island students excel in education
Jacy Anderson of Honokaa earned placement on the dean’s list for the summer semester at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass.
Lawrenes Higa of Hilo High School will be attending Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., starting with the fall 2014 semester, and was awarded the Hilltop Scholarship, a four-year award. Higa’s anticipated major is sport management.
In October, Alejandro Martinez of Holualoa was named to the Biola University dean’s list for academic excellence. Biola is in Southern California.
Eastern Oregon University announced the following Big Island students have graduated: Aaron Tanabe of Hilo, Bachelor of Science in Physical Activity &Health; Ashley McDaniel of Honokaa, an Associate of Arts in Administrative Management; Christopher Mello of Keaau, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and Lauren Domingo of Paauilo, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
