Maikai Gahan scored 16 points, Calvin Mattos added 12 and Lucas St. George had 10 on Thursday night to power Waiakea past Kaiser 66-45 and into the semifinals of the Waiakea-Keaau preseason boys classic.
The Warriors, who used a 26-point third quarter to break away on their home floor, played Hawaii Prep on Friday night for the right to advance out of the Blue Bracket in first place.
Waiakea’s St. George, a 6-foot-3 senior, thrilled the crowd with a two-handed dunk to cap a Warriors’ fastbreak.
Waiakea coach Paul Lee also got a spark from junior guard Cody Kojima and sophomore guard Noah Ferreira.
Chance Kalaugher, a 6-5 sophomore, led the Cougars of the Oahu Interscholastic Association with 15 points.

• Hawaii Prep 56, Hilo 21: Kalan Camero contributed 18 points and Nicky Palleschi added 12 as Ka Makani reached the semifinals with an easy victory against the Vikings.

• Kohala 67, Honokaa 51: Mikala Jordan scored 14 points, Justin Agbayani added 12 and Ryan Carvalho had 10 to spur the Cowboys, who took the lead in the first quarter and never looked back in beating their North Hawaii rival.
